Dr. Aidi Ahmi from UUM was named the recipient of the 9th "Anak Sarawak" Appreciation Award for his contributions and excellence in conjunction with Tribal Meet (TriBE) 2018 in Kuching, Sarawak.
The success of the Director of the Institute for Strategic and Sustainable Accounting Development (ISSAD), Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM) was indeed a significant achievement.
"This success is not only for me but also for the institute that I lead and this is a very prestigious award which is only awarded once a year by the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) and the Sarawak State Government," he said.
According to him, the award was not just awarded to Sarawakians but also for non-Sarawakians both at national and international levels.
"Actually, I do not expect to win because the shortlisted candidates involved are equally if not better and most of them are directly involved with industrial management," he said.
Commenting further on his contributions, he was involved with several events such as organizing a conference in Sarawak which was financially supported mainly by the SCB.
"The support provided by SCB is a great opportunity for the university and other conference organizers and should be shared for mutual benefit.
Dr. Aidi took the initiative to share SCB services by conducting presentations from 2016 – 2018, apart from successfully organizing three events in Sarawak and opening up business opportunities to the state of Sarawak.
At the SCB organised event, besides Dr. Aidi Ahmi (Universiti Utara Malaysia), Mr. Ahmad Zaiwin Mohd Kassim (Sarawak's Innovative Youth Pro Youth Cooperative) was also announced as the winner of the Excellent Achievement Award while Mr. Eric van Piggelen (Borneo Kuching Convention Centre) was awarded the Grand Winner of the same award.
At the ceremony which was officiated by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg, the winners received a marketing and training grant of amounting to MYR10,000 and MYR20,000 respectively for the Grand Prize Winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award.
