The School of Business Management (SBM) organised the CEO@Faculty Programme, which took place at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall, yesterday.
The organisers of the programme invited Nora Abdul Manaf, the Chief Human Capital Officer of the Maybank Group, to share her experience and expertise in the corporate world, especially with regard to the development of human capital, or human resources, with UUM students.
The CEO@Faculty programme is based on the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education), which is centred on producing graduates who evince attributes that are entrepreneurial, holistic, and balanced by way of a commensurate involvement in industry.
In her lecture entitled 'A Difference', she stressed the influences that went towards the formation of personal branding, which highlighted the differences, or uniqueness, of the self that set one apart from others, as well as how to stand out from the crowd in an acceptable manner, and how to achieve this.
"We may plan to become something, or to do something, but the expectation out there may be different from what has been planned.
"Therefore, you should never ever stop learning nor feel embarrassed about admitting your lack of knowledge in a given area. In fact, this will encourage you to continue learning," she said.
Throughout the lecture, she shared her experience of working in various fields of endeavour, including education, where she served as a teacher in Sarawak before joining the field of human resources in a number of organisations.
She added further that it was important for us to know what we were doing and that we should not pretend to know things that we did not know anything about.
She said that everyone should know what to do and how to go about doing the work, as well as how to improve on it.
At the end of the lecture, there was a question-and-answer session, as well as the presentation of prizes to students who successfully answered the questions in a quiz that was given earlier.
Early on in the day, Nora Abdul Manaf received her letter of appointment as an Adjunct Professor of SBM, UUM COB, which was presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, at the Visitors' Lounge, Chancellery.
Also present at the event were the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM COB, Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff, and various officers of the university.

Seven years of hard work has finally paid off for Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) when UUM College of Business (UUMCOB) obtained the prestigious AACSB accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) on 10 August 2016.
The official announcement was made by the Executive Vice-President and Chief Accreditation Officer of AACSB International, Robert D. Reid in Tampa, Florida, USA.
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, the accreditation is a landmark achievement for UUM since its inception over 30 years ago. It also signifies the hallmark of excellence in our pursuit to be among the best in business education.
"We have been working towards this moment since 2009, right after submitting the application to become a member of the AACSB in 2008. Ever since that, we have been steadfast in our pursuit to be part of AACSB accredited member.
"This accreditation represents the highest achievement for UUM, thus making the university the largest management university in the world to obtain the accreditation for six schools, one department, 23 academic programmes with 500 academic staff members and more than 13,000 students," said Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak in a ceremony to commemorate UUM achievement in obtaining the prestigious AACSB acceditation at the Foyer of Sultanah Bahiyah Library this morning.
It is essential to note that only 5% of the world's top business schools have obtained this prestigious accreditation and at the moment, UUM shares this prestigious status with 777 business schools from 52 countries around the world.
He added that, the road to obtain the accreditation is certainly long-winded and we must comply with the requirements and the 15 accreditation standards as stipulated by AACSB.
"It's a rigorous journey especially for UUMCOB, OYAGSB and the Department of International Business (IB) as only five percent of business schools around the world have successfully obtained this accreditation. There are also cases where the accreditation had to be withdrawn for failure to conform to the standards set by AACSB after the reassessment process.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUMCOB, Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff said, AACSB was established in 1916 and the process to obtain the accreditation is certainly arduous and challenging.
"With this accreditation, UUM must offer and maintain very high standards of academic business programmes as avowed in our vision, To Be The Eminent Management University," he said.
He added that, as an accredited member of AACSB, all activities organised by UUM for staff or students must draw in the three key elements as highlighted by the AACSB- i.e. Impact, Innovation and Engagement.
At the same event, Dato' Seri Vice-Chancellor also presented certificates of appreciation to the representatives of the Schools under UUMCOB including OYAGSB and the International Business Department.
In attendance were the Deputies Vice-Chancellor; AACSB Unit Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faudziah Zainal Abidin; members of the University Management Committee and UUM officers.
