tissa mou4 January - Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA) Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) at the EDC Hotels & Resorts, today.

At the event, UUM was represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak while ICAN was represented by the President, Mallam Isma'ila Muhammadu Zakari. The signing of the MoU was witnessed by the Dean of TISSA-UUM, members of the delegation from Nigeria, students and also members of the staff.

In his speech, the President of ICAN, Mallam Isma'ila Muhammadu Zakari expressed his delight with the warm welcome extended to him and the members of his delegation to UUM. He also shared the history of ICAN including the achievements and accomplishments.

He explained that ICAN is a prestigious professional accounting body and he sincerely hoped that the signing of the MoU will strengthen the international collaboration agenda between the two institutions and it will bring greater benefits for the students especially with the establishment of ICAN Malaysia District Society which will undoubtedly attract Nigerian and other West African students residing in Asia and in-home countries to UUM.

Meanwhile, UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak believed that the signing of the MOU between ICAN and UUM would open more avenues for future academic collaborations and engagements as the collaborative efforts will be effectively synchronised through the newly established, ICAN Malaysia District Society including the student exchange programmes, lectures and collaborative research projects in various fields.

"The recognitions and accreditations received by UUM from various international bodies have attracted international students, including those from Nigeria to pursue their studies in UUM".

Prof. Dato' Seri added that, UUM has embarked on several journeys of synergistic academic collaborations with institutions of higher learning in Nigeria including the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria; Bayero University Kano (BUK), Kano; Kaduna State University, Kaduna; and Kano State Polytechnic, Kano and now with ICAN.
