SKPSA 2018 FOCUSES ON THE CONSOLIDATION OF INTEGRITY IN THE GOVERNANCE OF PUBLIC SECTOR

skpsaSabah - On the seventh year of its organisation, the Public Sector Financial and Auditing Seminar 2018 (SKPSA 2018) organised by the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA) continued to focus on relevant current issues related to governance in the public sector in the country.

Focusing on consolidating integrity including on matters pertaining to internal control, risk management and detection capabilities and prevention of fraud in the financial affairs of organisation, SKPSA2018 became a platform for academic and industry practitioners to establish co-operation and promote the proliferation of knowledge and experience sharing for three days beginning on 2 July at the Klagan Regency Hotel, Kota Kinabalu.

Dean of TISSA, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chek Derashid said the public sector needed to be more effective and efficient in supporting the progress and development of the country through a dynamic and sustainable financial governance.

"We also need to be aware of fraud and also the detection and prevention measures because efficient and effective internal controls in managing government resources can help to prevent abuse of power and public finances.

"The issues discussed at this seminar are in line with the current challenging economic environment, followed by the theme which is, Dynamic Governance Creates Goodness, Rejects Disadvantages and Eliminates Harm," said the Dean who represented the Vice-Chancellor during the opening of SKPSA2018.

A total of 190 participants that comprised government officials, accountants and auditors from various public organisations throughout the country attended the seminar which featured speakers such as former Auditor-General, Tan Sri Ambrin Buang; President of Transparency International (M), Dato' Akhbar Sattar; member of the UUM Board of Directors, Mr. Nik Mohd Hasyudeen Yusoff; Mr. Mohd Zaki Ismail from the National Audit Department; Ustaz Mohd Fadhli Ahmat (Integrity and Standard Compliance Department, IPK Kota Kinabalu) and Mr. Shuhairoz Mohamed Shukeri (Quality and ISO Division, Immigration Department of Malaysia).

Also present was the Director of SKPSA, Dr Rose Shamsiah Samsudin.
